New Year's Day

The Library will be closed in observation of New Year's Day. We will re-open next year. Seriously, we re-open Monday, January 4th @ high noon as usual.

Have a safe and Happy New Year.

New Librarian

My name is Tiffany Long and I have recently been hired by the City of Princeton as the new Librarian. I grew-up in the North Texas area, in Aubrey, and am proud to call Princeton my new home. My grandmother, Jean Rodgers, was Librarian at the Aubrey Area Library for many years and I was fortunate to have been there to see it start from the ground up. She was a Librarian at North Texas University for twenty one (21) years prior, long before it became UNT, until retiring and working at the Aubrey Library. She was brilliant and friendly. I hope to share what I learned working with her with the patrons of this library.

Since arriving at the Library, I have worked very hard to start a few new programs that have already achieved great success. The library hosted its first Community Christmas Party on December 17th. Nearly 50 were in attendance and we look forward to an even larger crowd next year. Visit the Event section of our website to view photos. Events

A Children's Storytime with puppets and crafts is offered every Thursday @ 2:00pm.

Children ages 7-15 are welcome to join the Junior Classics reading club. For every five (5) books read from the reading list, they will receive a certificate good for an ice-cream at Sonic. Already, fifteen (16) are signed-up in the program and ten (11) books have been read. We will be meeting every month to discuss materials read starting in January. Snacks and drinks will be provided as well as a craft.

The Teen Photography Club is gathering interest and is scheduled to launch late January. Check the website or contact me for more details.

Adults can plan to attend the first Adult "Who Dun' It?" social on Thursday, January 21st from 6:00 - 7:00pm. We will meet to discuss what our first book will be while we enjoy refreshments.

Tax preparation classes will be offered in March. This will be an informational class that will include instruction on filing taxes online for a more speedy return and hopefully access to TurboTax. All tax booklets will be available at the library for paper returns as well.

Finally, Interlibrary Loan is available and a number of patrons have already requested and returned materials through the program. For those of you unfamiliar with this service, we are able to locate and request materials unavailable at our library from thousands of participating libraries across the country. In addition, we participate in the TexShare program. This program allows all library patrons in good standing to borrow materials from any partipating library throughout the State of Texas. See me for more details on this program.

The library will be offering internet training as well GED classes during the next year. Be sure to check the website for updates and class schedules. In the mean time, come to the library for assistance with your resume or any other clerical need. We will be glad to assist you.

I have enjoyed meeting the people of Princeton. You have truly made me feel welcome. I look forward to returning the favor and making you feel welcome right here at the Princeton Community Library.

Our New Catalog!

http://princeton.biblionix.com/atoz/catalog/

Thanks to a grant from the Tocker Foundation, Princeton Community Library is now Automated! We have bar-codes on the back of all library items, and bar-code scanners at the check-out desk, and once everyone comes in & gets the bar-codes for the back of their cards, check-out will be a breeze! Everyone can also check the catalog from any computer, anywhere in the world, and not only see what we have, but see what is available to check-out! (We've never had that option before.) Aaaaaaand, you can now put up to 3 items on reserve for yourself, with just the click of a button. How's that for being just as modern as the other libraries? You'll also have the added benefit of being notified of overdues via email, and the ability to see what you've got out already, when it's all due, & renew items day or night via the internet.

Ever thought about Home-Schooling?

Or just curious? We just got in a slew of new Home-Schooling books that you'll find interesting.

For those of you ready to start, Home Learning Year By Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School is a definite must. Also on your list of books not to be without, should be The Complete Home Learning Source Book : The Essential Resource Guide for Homeschoolers, Parents, and Educators Covering Every Subject From Arithmetic to Zoology. The Homeschooling Handbook is another essential; it's a guide for parents which will help you: make the decision, discover your child's learning style, get started, and create an effective study program. Others that you should pick based on your own special circumstances are: The First Year of Homeschooling; Homeschooling (The Early Years); Homeschooling (The Teen Years); Homeschoolers' College Admissions Handbook.

If you've always wondered what it's all about, these will be just the thing: The Homeschooling Book of Answers (The 101 Most Important Questions Answered by Homeschooling's Most Respected Voices); The Well-Adjusted Child (The Social Benefits of Homeschooling); Guerilla Learning (How to Give Your Kids a Real Education With Or Without School); and The Unschooling Handbook (How to Use the Whole World As Your Child's Classroom). And for those with teen who's having a hard time in school, maybe you should check out: The Teenage Liberation Handbook (How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education); or Real Lives (Eleven Teenagers Who Don't Go to School Tell Their Own Stories).
